Varadkar And Martin To Meet This Morning In Last Attempt To Avoid General Election

The Taoiseach and Fianna Fáil leader meet again this morning in a last ditch attempt to avert a snap general election.

It emerged yesterday that Frances Fitzgerald received additional emails detailing the proposed Garda legal strategy against whistleblower Maurice McCabe.

She's tweeted to say that as Justice Minister she could not interfere with the O'Higgins Commission - and says the Disclosures tribunal "will objectively judge the appropriateness" of her conduct.

It comes ahead of a proposed Dáil debate on a no confidence motion in the Tanaiste.
