Vera Twomey completes her journey to the Dail surrounded by hundreds of wellwishers

Vera Twomey has finally walked through the gates of the Dail, as she completes her 290km journey from Cork to Dublin.

The Cork mum of four was accompanied by hundreds of people on the last few kilometers of her protest walk, which has been described by many as heroic.

Supporters carrying banners cheered as she walked through the gates to meet politicians with her husband Paul.

Vera decided to make the journey after the familys request for access to medicinal cannabis on compassionate grounds to ease the epileptic seizures Ava suffers as a result of a rare form of epilepsy was rejected by the Department of Health.

Simon Harris is expected to meet with Vera, but she says she will not leave until she is guaranteed a paediatric neurologist can sign off on the treatment, which will mean a change to the current law.

Vera was confined to a wheelchair for some of the journey, but says the pain she has endured along the way,  is nothing compared to what her daughter Ava suffers on a daily basis.

Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM Vera says she won't give up because her daughters life is at stake:
