Warning That The Post Office Network Is In Danger Of Collapse Without Government Assistance

The Irish Postmasters Union says it's difficult to pinpoint where Post Offices will close but say there will be 'unrestrained closures' over the next six to eight months if the state doesn't step in
An independent report conducted by Grant Thornton says the network is at a 'critical juncture' and needs 17 million euro a year in Government support to avoid large-scale post office closures over the next six to eight months.
The union says while the findings of the report are stark, they are not surprising as these issues have been raised in the past and it's well known that the post office network has been challenged over the last number of years
Responding to the findings, An Post says it recognises the decline in footfall and incomes during Covid-19 and its' working with government to address the issues.
Speaking to RedFM News Ned O'Hara of the Irish Postmasters Union says replacing the network would not be easily done
