Water charges won’t be reintroduced according to the Government

The OECD says the fees need to be looked at again to improve investment in the country’s water supply and sanitation

There seems to be no appetite in Government for the suggestion.

A plan to bring in water charges in 2014 was abandoned following a public backlash after the first water  metre protest in the country was mounted here in Cork by the residents of Ashbrook Heights in Lehenaghmore

This morning both the Taoiseach Micheál Martin and the Environment Minister Eamon Ryan ruled it out the reintroduction of the charge

Taoiseach        "No we won't be going back on that, we won't be introducing water charges"

Minister Ryan : "We will not be going back to the water charges issue, I think it was agreed in the Oireachtas All Party Committee"
