West Cork Environmental Campaign Groups Will Be Hoping To Benefit From A New Plan To Designate The Area As Ireland's First Marine-Based National Park

It follows recent campaigns in the area to block a plastics factory from locating in Skibbereen

Under a new twenty year plan submitted to Government by Cork TD Holly Cairns and Cllr Ross O’Connell emphasis would be placed on sustainable fishing, the protection of Bantry Bay kelp, and the utilisation of the coast in West Cork. 

It follows recent campaigns in the area to block a plastics factory from locating in Skibbereen and to prevent the mechanical harvesting of kelp in Bantry Bay.
