Whitegate Refinery sold to Canadian Oil Company

Whitegate Oil Refinery has been sold to Canadian Giant Irving Oil.

All of the 160 jobs in the East Cork facility will be retained following a long period of uncertainty.

The legal licence by the previous owners Phillips 66 ran out in July, and there was much speculation surrounding the facility.

The news has been welcomed by locals in the East Cork region, as the refinery contributes to the local economy both directly and Indirectly.

It provides one third of all transportation fuel and is a long-term principle supplier to the National Oil Reserves Agency.
