Wives & Partners of the Defence Forces set to escalate campaign

A group protesting for better pay and conditions in the Defence Forces are to escalate their campaign after they meet with Minister Paul Kehoe.

The Wives & Partners of the Defence Forces recently held protests on behalf of their partners, who are unable to protest, outside barracks across the country including Collins Barracks here in Cork and Haulbowline Naval Base.

They've requested a meeting with Minister Paul Kehoe and afterwards are to mount a demonstration outside Department of Defence Headquarters in Newbridge.

The group say at least one in four enlisted personnel are on Family Income Supplement and they say the wages are disrespectful given the nature of their partner's jobs.

Lorriane O'Hare from Cork has been protesting with the group on behalf of her husband and speaking to RedFM News she says a new position has been advertised at the Department of Defence with a yearly salary of over €120,000 which she says is insulting to members who are struggling:
