Worst chances of survival for stray dogs in Cork

Chances of survival for a stray dog are the worst in Cork. According to today's Irish Examiner a higher percentage of stray dogs are put down in Cork than anywhere else in the country. Of the 592 strays captured by the council's part-time wardens 391 were put down. The figures stand in stark contrast to other counties such as Leitrim and Cavan where only around 1% of stray dog are put down. Calls are now being made for Cork County Council to advertise stray dogs they pick up which Animal Welfare Cork say will allow owners to reunite with their dogs when they go missing.
