Basketball: Niamh Dwyer on European Olympic Games Qualification
Ireland's Senior Women 3x3 Basketball Squad have qualified for the European Olympic Games in Baku 2015 with a 10th place finish at the 3x3 European Championships in Bucharest this weekend. Team Ireland saw off Ukraine 16-14 in overtime to guarantee their spot in Azerbaijan and become the first ever Irish basketball squad to qualify for an Olympic event. (The Senior Men's appearance at the London games in 1948 was by invitation) The Irish Squad for the European 3x3 Championships was sisters Niamh and Grainne Dwyer from Team Montenotte Hotel in Cork, Suzanne Maguire of Liffey Celtics (captain) and Ailish McLaughlin of DCU Saints. Ireland recovered from earlier defeats against Romania and Switzerland to see off Ukraine 16-14 in the final game in Group C.
