Christina Desmond through to quarter finals

Cork's Christina Desmond is through to the last 8 of the Women's World Boxing Championships.

The Cill na Martra welterweight was too good for her Canadian opponent Myriam Da Silva in Russia this afternoon, winning every round on all the judges scorecards on her way to a unanimous decision win.

Desmond will now fight for a medal tomorrow against a Turkish opponent.

Earlier, Dundalk lightweight Amy Broadhurst booked a quarter final against Finland's Mira Potkonen.

Broadhurst won a unanimous decision against Poland's Aneta Rygielska in Siberia this morning.
