Conor McGregor announces MMA retirement

It looks like Conor McGregor may have fought in the Octagon for the last time.

The Notorious tweeted last night to say he had retired from "Mixed Martial Art (sic)".

It remains to be seen as to whether or not it's a legitimate retirement announcement, or a tactic being used in fight negotiations. The 30 year old was rumoured to be in line to face Donald Cerrone in July, while a rematach with Khabib Nurmagomedov was also being floated. Cerrone was subsequently booked to face Al Iaquinta, seemingly due to McGregor's refusal to be the co-main event for UFC 239.

Of course this isn't the first time the Dubliner announced his "retirement" on Twitter, tweeting "thanks for the cheese" when he was pulled from the UFC 200 card after refusing to take part in the media tour.

The former two weight UFC Champion appeared on the Jimmy Fallon show last night, but no mention of retirement was made.

It remains to be seen if it's the last we've seen of McGregor in the Octagon.
