Cork 1-9 Wexford 1-9 - Cork Camogie Manager Paudie Murray Reaction
Una Leacy came off the bench to rescue Wexford with a dramatic injury-time goal at Semple Stadium to ensure a replay of their Liberty Insurance senior camogie semi-final against Cork next Saturday. It looked like Katriona Mackey’s goal mid-way through the first half would decide this very tight affair but Leacy made no mistake to deny Cork. Jenny O’Leary did have a chance to snatch it for the Leesiders late on from a difficult free tight to the sideline but her effort drifted wide. The six yellow cards issued by Alan Lagrue bore testament to the competitiveness and intensity of the affair. Ursula Jacob’s point was the only score of the game when Mackey took a pass from the excellent Angela Walsh to beat Wexford goalkeeper, Mags D’Arcy. It was 1-3 to 0-3 at half time and Wexford did reduce the margin to the minimum with points from Jackie Quigley and Leacy. A brace of points from Mackey helped restore the goal advantage for Cork though and that’s what was between them when Leacy made her dramatic intervention to ensure a second bite of the cherry for Wexford.
