Cork's John Hayes on Rebel Style

Carbery Rangers Clubman John Hayes says the Cork squad are intelligent players who will play the game as they see fit in Sundays All Ireland Football Quarter Final against Mayo. Brian Cuthberts charges brought a new approach to their game in last weeks qualifier win over Sligo, with Mark Collins and Colm O'Driscoll falling back to play more defensive roles, and more direct ball being supplied to the forwards. With Collins and O'Driscoll retreating, the four other forwards registered on the scoreboard in the victory over Sligo, while midfielders Ian McGuire and Aidan Walsh also contributed to the 0-21 to 1-11 winning margin. A similar approach could be employed against Mayo this Sunday with James Horan's side wearing the favourites tag, as they attempt to win this years All Ireland football title after losing the last two finals to Donegal and Dublin. Mayo's inside forward line, likely to include Cillian O'Connor, Andy Moran and Alan Dillion, poses a formidable threat in isolation, but with prolific defenders like Lee Keegan, the Michael Shields captained Rebel side will have to maintain the organisation they showed last week, across the field.
