IRFU confident Leinster v Ulster will go ahead despite Covid-19 outbreak in Ulster Academy

The IRFU are confident Saturday's Pro14 derby between Leinster and Ulster will go ahead as planned at the Aviva Stadium

Ulster officials say multiple academy players have tested positive for Covid-19, while one senior player is self isolating after being identified as a potential close contact.

Senior and academy training at Ulster has been suspended as a result.

All four provinces underwent coronavirus testing this week, with results expected today.

Ulster released a statement on their website last night, with Ulster Rugby Medical Director, Michael Webb, saying: “Following confirmation of multiple Academy players testing positive for COVID-19, we are closely following public health advice in line with the IRFU’s Return to Play protocols. As a result, we have taken a number of precautionary measures as we await the results of further testing. We are supporting the individuals involved and all will continue to be medically monitored.

“Our top priority is to ensure the health and safety of our players and staff, and we will continue to work closely with both the IRFU and PHA as we look to make a safe and measured return to rugby.”
