Lord Mayor's Cup Launch
The launch for the Lord Mayor's Cup was held in City Hall last night. The competition sees 24 Cork City and surrounding area schools form 8 teams, and they'll play their matches on Friday nights over 8 weeks The idea is to reinvigorate hurling in schools and promote the game. The competition will also see some exciting tweaks to the rule book - sideline balls that go over the bar will be worth two points, a goal from a ground strike worth four, while catching a puckout between the two 65 yard lines will result in a free puck for the catcher. Cork legend Teddy McCarthy is the chairman, and we spoke to him at last night's launch - click PLAY above to hear from him, and from several students who are looking forward to getting the chance to represent their schools in hurling Cork's RedFM along are proud media partners to the Lord Mayor's Cup.
