Sport Headlines 6th September

Ireland boss Martin O'Neill says their draw with Serbia last night was a point gained and not two points lost.

The boys in green played out a 2-2 draw in Belgrade, Jeff Hendrick and and Daryl Murphy with Ireland's goals.

Meanwhile, there's four Irish under-age teams in action today.

Noel King's Under-21s are back in European qualifying action as they visit Serbia in a 5pm start.

The Under-19s host Austria in a friendly international at the Tallaght Stadium, which starts at 1 o'clock.

There's an Under-17 friendly at Turner's Cross, where IReland will host Turkey from half-past seven.

And there's also a Women's underage friendly as the Irish Under-17s travel to face Finland in Helsinki at 3pm.

Cork City fans will be hoping Dundalk can drop points tonight.

The league leaders are in the Showgrounds to face Sligo Rovers - that's at 7.45.

In the Premier U21A Hurling Championship 

Fr O'Neills defeated Sarsfields last night on a scoreline of 3-11 to 0-12

Andy Murray's set up a US Open quarter final with Kei Nishikori. 

The second seed dispatched Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets last night at Flushing Meadows. 

Women's top seed Serena Williams will face Simona Halep in the last-eight. 

Serena was a straight sets victor over Yaroslava Shvedova (PR: Sh-ved-oh-vah). 

While fifth seed Halep beat Spain's Carla Suárez Navarro 6-2, 7-5. 

Women's second seed Angelique Kerber gets the quarter final action underway today, facing seventh seed Roberta Vinci (PR: Vinch-ee). 

While men's top seed and defending champion Novak Djokovic is up against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
