Adele has the highest selling album of 2016...but it was released in 2015
There's no stopping Adele!
Adele is still taking the charts by storm. The singer has the highest selling album of the year so far despite the album being released at the back-end of 2015. The album, 25, is also the fastest selling album of all time and the highest selling of 2015, so it looks like she'll hold the title for two years in a row!
25 has sold 632,000 copies so far this year in a combination of physical purchases, digital downloads and a streaming equivalent.
Her second album 21, which was released in 2011, is still the 31st best selling album of 2016 according to the Official Charts Company.
In second place with 413,000 combined sales is Justin Bieber's Purpose which was also released in 2015. This is no surprise as the Canadian had hit single after hit single from the album, holding the top three songs in the charts at one point, the first ever artist to do so.
Of albums released in 2016, David Bowie's Blackstar album which was released only a few days after his death on his 69th birthday, has a combined sale of 376,000 copies meaning it is the top selling album released in 2016.
When it comes to singles, Drake's One Dance featuring Wizkid and Kyla tops the charts as the biggest selling single of the year so far.
The song has sold 1.7 million copies and spent 15 weeks at the top of the charts which equals the 1994 Wet Wet Wet song Love Is All Around.
One Dance took the biggest selling single of the year off Lukas Graham's 7 Years which is now the second best seller of the year so far. 7 years totaled an impressive 1.4 million sales but has been overtaken by the mighty One Dance.
