Brit Awards to host in-person ceremony with first indoor live acts after more than a year
The organisers of the Brit Awards have said the show will have an audience of 4,000 as part of the government's research into how live events might work after the pandemic.
The ceremony will take place at London's O2 arena on 11 May and will be hosted by comedian Jack Whitehall. The audience of 4,000 people won't need to wear masks or socially distance, however they will need a negative Covid test. Once inside the arena it will be as normal as possible with food service and alcohol.
All attendees will be asked to take a test after the event to help gather further evidence on the safety of indoor events with reduced social distancing an the absence of face coverings.
It is the latest edition to the Events Research Programme, which examines how venues and events can safely reopen. The scheme also includes a nightclub in Liverpool that will reopen to host 3,000 people per night on 30 April and 1 May, as well as a 5,000 capacity gig on 2 May.
2,500 of the 4,000 tickets for the Brits will be given to essential workers from London as a way to thank them for their hard work and selfless commitment. The key workers can apply for these free tickets via the Brit Awards website.
The other 1,500 tickets will be for the nominated artists and their teams, along with members of the music industry and sponsors of the ceremony.
