Live At The Marquee - A Chancer's Guide to Billy Idol

Billy Idol plays Live At The Marquee Cork tonight.
On November 30th 1955, William Michael Albert Broad was born in Stanmore, Middlesex, England. He would go on to take the stage name Billy Idol and achieve fame in the punk rock era as a member of Generation X. Idol was inspired by The Beatles and The Rolling Stones which was unusual for rock artists of his time.
Following his time with Generation X, Idol embarked on a successful solo career and was a member of the “Second British Invasion” of the United States which was driven by MTV.
Taking advantage of music videos, Idol released songs such as “Dancing With Myself”, “White Wedding”, “Rebel Yell” and “Eyes Without A Face” which made him one of MTV’s first stars.
His current band consists of Steve Stevens on lead guitar and keyboards, Stephen McGrath on bass guitar and backing vocals, Billy Morrison on rhythm guitar and backing vocals, Erik Eldenius on drums and percussion and Paul Trudeau on keyboards.
His studio albums are Billy Idol (1982), Rebel Yell (1983), Whiplash Smile (1986), Charmed Life (1990), Cyberpunk (1993), Devil's Playground (2005), Happy Holidays (2006) and his most recent Kings & Queens of the Underground (2014)
Idol has been nominated for three Grammy awards for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance for “Rebel Yell”. “To Be A Lover” and “Cradle of Love” but has never won.
Check out Neil Prendeville's recent interview with the star ahead of his Cork appearance.
