Shandon Street Festival To Take Place This Weekend

The Shandon Street Festival Committee are delighted to announce that the cutting of the ribbon to open the Shandon Street Festival will take place on Saturday 18th June at 1pm.

Linda O'Halloran, Shandon Street Festival organiser said; “This is our 10th year organizing the festival, and each year it has gone from strength to strength. This year’s festival is going to be the best yet, and we have been working hard over the last few months to get many family friendly activities and events organized. We would like to welcome everyone to Shandon on Saturday 18th June from 1pm – 6pm, to help us celebrate this great community that we have and to take part in all the activities.”

The Shandon Street Festival is an annual free family fun day which takes place on and around Church Street in the shadow of the Shandon Bells. This year the festival is packed with family friendly activities and events such as street entertainment, magic shows, pottery demonstrations, cake decorating, balloon modellers, frame making and not only is there a puppet show, but children can also take part in a Puppet Making Workshop which is sure to be very popular.

Soccer mad Under 10’s are encouraged to take part in the 5-a-side Soccer Tournament which will take place in St. Anne’s Park along with a whole host of other activities like Hula Hoops and skipping ropes for all age groups.

Those fond of music will be in their element with the sounds of the Butter Exchange Band, Ray Barron and the |Long Shots. We are thrilled to announce as an added bonus this year, we have the Midwest Young Artists Conservatory (MYAC) Orchestra from Chicago, supported by a seven-piece jazz ensemble playing at 1.30pm (this orchestra is has up to 40 young musicians and are sure to entertain old and young alike.) Irish dancers can jig along to the Ceili All Stars band and Ceili Dancers at the Ceili beag which starts at 3pm.

In the Church of St Anne’s, Shandon, we have choirs performing all day with Coral Con Fusion, Voices of Cork, High Hopes Choir, The Sacred Harp Singers of Cork, NICHE: Sing Your Heart Out group and Na Piarsaigh Singers.

Foodies can savour delicious treats and snacks at a wide range of food stalls with everything from Spanish churros, crepes, ice-cream to candy floss and cakes We are also delighted to have Cork Independent as well as Red fm as media sponsors and fortunate to have Cathedral Credit Union as a main sponsor for the event..
